Top 10 reasons why I won't be re-visiting Langkawi anytime in near future :

  1. Babies screamin their little lungs out throughout the ferry ride; both ways.
  2. It rained cats and dogs. And mabbe a lembu or two.
  3. The place was jammed packed with tourists. I could have sworn I was in Saudi...
  4. The tourist attractions were overpriced and under-maintained.
  5. The morons next door belted out lagu-lagu Balada till 2 in the morning; both nights. Try picturing Ramli Sarip crossed with the helium-voiced Mika. And add a dash of that bastard called Aznil Nawawi. Finally manage to shut their piehole after I lodged a complaint with the management.
  6. Food mostly sucked. Except for a few acceptable ones near Kuah.
  7. The car I rented came with eksos senget 45 darjah. Shouting was compulsory to avoid getting drowned out by the booming din.
  8. Kerbaus everywhere. I kid you not.
  9. The price of duty free goods varied greatly from place to place. You have to comb the entire town to get the best price.
  10. Couldn't get any decent shots throughout the entire trip due to overcast skies. And when it did clear up... it was time to go home.

But there were a few gems which popped up once in a while, but they were rare and way too far in between.

This car should have came with accompanying earplugs. But to it's credit, it didn't breakdown once over the 3 days I was there. Most important... it was clean. But I almost suffocated to death from the lethal cocktail of air fresherners.

The bird park was okay...

Uh... huh...

This uncle fried koey teow wiv no cockles... no chinese sausage... but ok-lar...

The Underwaterworld was really poorly maintained... murky... plenty of water-stains on the aquarium glasswalls... etc...

One of the more pleasing sights in Langkawi... that is until a herd of kerbaus decide to suddenly appear out of no-where...

I've heard great things about the view from the top of the cable car station. Unfortunately... this is all I saw...

Sipek damp...

It wasn't raining when I went up... but the fog was so freakin thick... and cold... you could see beads of water forming on my brow... yes... I don't pluck... kenot ar?

But eventually, the fog cleared just enuf to warrant me a peek at what hides behind...

The beaches didn't have powdery white sand...

But it sure had plenty of these little critters...

12x optical came in real handy here...

Some faux-mayan looking thingy at the Hot Water springs...

Goodbye Langkawi... see ya in like... err... mm... tengok dulu-lar...

if you go to places like langkawi for sight seeing and play here and there, there's no point to go back to it again... unless maybe after 5 or 10 years (when it had changed). only when you are going on business (not sight seeing) you can return year after year.

i was in langkawi twice - once about 20 years ago and once about 8 years ago.

hey cmos, you no go to the black sand beach? maybe nowadays no more black sand. when i was there, i took back the black sand as a souvenir!

btw talking about powdery white sand, you should go to pulau redang (but hopefully development haven't spoiled it)
