I had a copy of this movie sitting in my laptop for months. But I just couldn't find the time to watch it. But I finally manage to sit through it 2 nights ago. And I dare say it was well worth it. One of the very first comics I got when I was much younger was the Hulk, so you could say I can pretty much connect with this green behemoth. First things first. Comparison between this new version and the super-emo-sappy version Ang Lee directed are inevitable. In terms of looks, I very much prefer the new rejuvenated version. IMHO, the Ang Lee version looked a little like a confused oversized child.
"doh..." Also, I was a little dissapointed by the lack of an actual villian in that movie. It was mostly Banner against the military. Sure... you can argue there was 'heart' in that version, but I prefer a Hulk movie with more action, much much more.
And that have been rectified this time round. The movie flows much faster, and all the sappy mushy stuff have been condensed into the first 15 minutes. Which leaves plenty for "HULK SMASH!!!" -ing action.
Edward Norton did a swell job in potraying Bruce Banner. His smaller physical stature resembled the comic version better, compared to the buff-er Eric Bana. Making it much easier to sympatize with him. Liv Tyler wasn't bad either as his love interest, Betty Ross; but she's mostly there just as eye candy.
It's good to see the Hulk in all his raging glory. The CG still isn't as convincing as I hope for (come on... is it really that hard to render a CG green giant properly with the gazzilions the studios are pumping in?). But this version is heaps better this time round in conveying the primal mannerism of the gamma-powered monstrosity.
The icing on the cake was the final battle between the Hulk and the Abomination. Savage, no holds barred mindless carnage. It's like watching two rabbies infected Rottweilers being set upon each other. I totally enjoyed the scene where the Hulk tore a cop car into two and used the two pieces as gauntlets to plummel the Abomination into submission. Absolutely cool. Overall, it was an enjoyable movie. In fact, I actually liked this movie a little better than Iron Man, which I thought was slightly over hyped. Definitely a good watch. leave me a message
